England Trial Race for Junior Home International Mountain Race (up and down)

This race has been designed as a trial race to help select the team to represent England at the Junior Home Country International Race at Glendalough, Ireland on 20th September.

Age Groups
The age groups used are based on the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) rules to comply with international regulations, and use age on 31st December 2014.
- U20 as at 31st December 2014 – this includes athletes born in 1995, 1996 and 1997.
- U17 as at 31 December 2014 – this includes athletes born in 1998 and 1999. (This is the equivalent of the FRA U16 on 1st January age group)

- 12.00 U17 Junior Men, U20 Junior Women
- 12.45 U17 Junior Women
- 13.15 U20 Junior Men
All routes will start a 10 minute walk from the People's Hall which will be signposted. Please stick to the marked path.
The race routes are designed to simulate the International race course in Ireland and will be flagged.
The start point is the same for all age groups, however the finish points for the U17 men & U20 women is 650m higher up the descent path than U17 women & U20 men, which is further down by Lockbank farm at a large flat grassy area.
All routes start by the wall at Canada Wood and then climb a path trending east for 500m and then north to the col.
U17 Junior Men and U20 Junior Women, the route runs above the wall and then takes the main path directly up to the col between Winder and Arant Haw. It then follows the large path which traverses Arant Haw to the left before ascending to the summit by a flagged route and descends steeply directly back to the col to take a slightly higher grassy path than that used on the ascent to the finish just beyond the large cairn where the path bends sharply.
U17 Junior Women also follows the same route to the Col where they turn left to join the grassy higher path to finish at a different location than the U17 junior men and U20 women just above Lockbank Farm.
U20 Junior Men run the same route as U17 men & U20 women, but finish further down the descent path as the U17 women just North of Lockbank Farm.

Safety
All runners must come prepared to carry or wear protective waterproof clothing. In the event of bad weather, the Race Organiser will decide what must be taken, which will be clearly displayed at Registration. If there is a requirement that kit must be taken, then you will not be allowed to run without it. Your kit will be checked at the start and also at the finish.

Registration
Registration will take place in Sedbergh People's Hall on Howgill Lane LA10 5DQ. Registration opens at 10:15 and will close at 12.00.
Parking
There is very limited parking at the People's Hall and on Howgill Lane (parking restrictions will be in place). Main event parking is just off Station Road at Sedbergh School, LA10 5HG which will be signposted. This is a 5 minute walk to registration. Please respect local residents and park responsibly.
Cafes and Shops
There are a couple of good cafes a few minutes walk from the People's Hall and numerous shops in Sedbergh.
Toilets
Available inside the changing rooms at the People's Hall.

Team Composition: | 4 U20 Junior Men and 4 U20 Junior Women (age at 31 December 2014 – this includes athletes born in 1995, 1996 and 1997), 4 U17 Junior Men and 4 U17 Junior Women (age at 31 December 2014 – this includes athletes born in 1998 and 1999).Subject to appropriate standards second development teams may be selected in all age groups. The U20 teams will include at least one athlete born in 1995, one athlete born in 1996 and one athlete born in 1997. |

Selection Details: | U20: The first athlete from the FRA U18 Championships and the first 2 athletes from the trial race will be selected with the remaining places to be decided by the selectors. U17: The first two athletes from the FRA U16 Championships and the first 2 athletes from the trial race will be selected with the remaining places to be decided by the selectors. NB. Automatic selection does not guarantee a place in the ‘A’ team –composition of ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams will be decided by the selection committee. |
